Aldershot Community Grub Hub

The Community Grub Hub in Aldershot opened its doors in December 2021 as a collective of people, organisations and businesses in and around Farnborough and Aldershot.

They care about offering food support to those in need in an open and supportive way, while reducing food waste. It was also set up to help with the increasing need within the local community for an independent foodbank.

Since opening, the Community Grub Hub has developed into a welcoming warm place for residents to help feed and clothe themselves and their families during these difficult times. It also provides an opportunity to speak to experts on issues around energy and debt management.

The Lions in Aldershot have been active supporters of this initiative since the start. Recent examples are the Aldershot Lions Club Food Bank Appeal for Christmas 2023 when club members donated items to the Grub Hub together with kind donations from members of the public at Morrisons in Aldershot. Previously in October 2022 Lion President Ian Hambleton donated 115Kg of cooking apples from his garden.

On average the Community Grub Hub hands out circa 1200kg of food to around 220 residents every week. Much of this food would otherwise go to landfill. On a weekly basis the Community Grub Hub also hands out over 180 items of secondhand clothing much of which would have been destined for landfill.
